Reception - Patient Penguins

Welcome to the Patient Penguin Class!

We are the Reception Class at Oasis Academy Bank Leaze and we are excited to Enjoy, Explore and Encourage this year.

The teacher in Reception is Miss Gatling and our EYFS lead is Mrs McLaren.

We have made a great start to our Reception Year. We have enjoyed learning our classroom routines, encouraging our friends and exploring our learning environment! We even got to spend time with our school rabbits.

In Term 1 we were exploring houses and homes. We walked around the local area looking at the different types of homes people live in. We explored 4 times of homes: House, flat, bungalow and cottage.

In Term 2, we explored celebrations around the world starting with Bonfire night and then exploring other celebrations around the world.

In Term 3, we looked at castles and knights and explored the story The story book knight. We loved finding investigating the journey Leo went on.

In Term 4, we looked at our planet and thought about how we can look after it. We read the book  somebody swallowed Stanley and took part in a litter pick to help protect the planet from rubbish.

In Term 5, we explored lots of different animals and their habitats! We read the book What the ladybird hear and explored the different animals living on the farm. We enjoyed making lots of different animals using resources such as paper plate wild animals. 

Patient Penguin Homework:

-Reading is at the heart of everything we do in Reception. We ask that your child reads at home as often as possible to ensure they develop into confident readers by the end of Reception. We would recommend reading 5 times per week. Your child will bring home a Phonics book and a levelled reading book. They will also have tricky words to learn and we will assess these regularly. Please remember to write in your child's reading record and to write a short comment. 

- As part of Horizon's, each child in Reception will bring an iPad home with them. At first we will use the iPad's at school to teach the children how to look after them and how to use different programmes. We would recommend using the following Educational Learning Apps.
