Welcome to the Year 5 Joyful Jaguars class page. We are going to Enjoy, Explore and Encourage with our learning this year. We have some exciting topics that we will explore this year. We hope children will enjoy our stimulating curriculum and we encourage children to celebrate all of their achievements. 

Every term we will send home our class newsletter. This will give you information based on what we will be learning that term. 

Term 1 - Newsletter

Here is an overview of what books we will be looking at in each term and what our topic question will be in those terms:

In Term one, we have been focusing on Who am I and Who am I becoming? 

In History we have been looking at why migration is an important part of our history and in Geography we have been focusing on our link country of North America and the difference in culture and lifestyle with the UK.

In Science we have been focusing on life cycles.

This term, Year 5 have been visiting our Forest School with Miss Trenear. They have been building dens, climbing trees and creating art from natural resources.

Homework

•  Daily reading of 15 minutesChildren should be reading at home every day for 15 minutes. This can be independently or aloud to an adult. Children should record this in their reading dairy daily and bring to school to be checked.
• Times table practice on times tables rock starsChildren should be going onto TT Rockstars at home daily for 10 minutes. This will support them with their fluency and speed on times tables knowledge up to 12 x 12.
• SumdogWork on sumdog is set weekly by Miss Downey. This work is personalised to each child and enables the children to focus on very specific learning to support their academic progress.
