Year 6 Wow event Term 2
In term 2 week 1, Year 6 started another new and exciting topic 'I wonder how life changed for children during World War 2?' The topic will focus on how life changed during the war with a focus on what was different for children.
During our term 2 Wow event, Year 6 got to handle artefacts from World War 2 which included gas masks, the identity cards of Miss Pope's Nan and great grand parents, a ration book and letters regarding Miss Pope's great grandad joining the ARP. Year 6 then learnt about what is was like to live during the Blitz by listening to an extract from Miss Pope's Nan's book about living during the war and that of the 19th March 1940 which was considered to be the worst night of the London Blitz and how her home took a direct hit from a V2 Rocket.
Year 6 finished the afternoon learning about rationing and dig for victory. In groups, the class made Carrot cake following a recipe from World War 2 that used the amounts of ingredients that families would receive as part of their weekly rationing.

Art Attack
During Week 5, the class had the chance to take part in an art attack challenge. We used materials from Cameron Balloons to make a large piece of art work based on our topic "I wonder why people protest?" The children designed a piece of art and made the image independently. It was great fun and everyone worked well together as a team to Enjoy, Explore, and Encourage each other!
Year 6 Wow Week
Week 2 in Year 6 saw the arrival of Wow Week! This was an opportunity for us to focus on team building skills and have the chance for the children to get stuck into Year 6 learning and building a great foundation for the year ahead. During the week, the children made slime, attended the life skills centre, had a Minecraft engineering session with an engineer from UWE, had a fire at forest school, went to Blaise castle and held a protest to launch our topic 'I wonder why people protest?' The children were so well behaved and set a great example to our local community as to just how fantastic the children at our school are!

During our first week back, we have taken part in some exciting activities focused on the book 'What we'll build'. We made towers, bridges, thought about instruction writing and worked as a team!
